Secrets in the Darkness

We are secrets in the darkness-
delicate, long-handled drops of sin and pleasure
in the night.
We are children of the sun-
who reject our distant mother's rays for the solace of the moon,
our bodies twirling and dancing together beneath the silvery light.

We are kin to the naiad, and the fairy, and the satyr-
wild, and untamed, and untouchable.
Our feet beat out the rhythm of our feral hearts in the blue grass
as we sing our hymns to the gods of blood and wine in the night.

We are fire, and water, and silverdust-
dangerous, powerful, and ephemeral.
We dance our dance beneath the white moon without regard
for the safeties or restraints of society.

We are young forever in the darkness.

And as you stockpile your midnight oil, we will light ours aflame
and burn forever in the fleeting ecstasy of life,
until we go out- all at once-
as we succumb, once again, to the darkness.
